SACS revoked the 50,000-student district's accreditation effective Sept. 1, saying the board met only one of nine improvement mandates. If the board successfully completes the plan, the school system could have its accreditation reinstated this year in time for seniors to graduate with an accredited diploma.
'It they follow the plan, take ownership of it and show results, they can get it done in one year,' said SACS president and chief executive officer Mark A. Elgart. 'Plans are not revealing on paper. They're revealing in action.'
Here is what Clayton must do to meet SACS' mandates:


MANDATE
Remove influence of outside disruptive groups.
ACTION STEPS
Board members and staff are encouraged to report ethics violators.
Board will follow hiring policies.
Board will establish budget and vendor policies
