Island Trees' full school board to meet over lead issue BY ZACHARY R. DOWDY |

Teachers and administrators now pay 13 percent of their benefits. During the 2009-10 school year, both groups will pay 15 percent; and in 2012-13, both groups will pay 18 percent.
'We are pleased with both contracts,' board Vice Chairwoman Lorraine Marchetti said Tuesday. 'There were a lot of issues to work out, and we spent a lot of time on them over the summer. We have a very good working relationship with both unions, and we think we have balanced the needs of the taxpayers and put in place competitive contracts that helps us retain teachers and administrators.'
Marchetti, who has worked with the unions during her entire nine years on the board, said the four-year contract was unusual, but something the board 'stuck to.' In the past, the board has approved two- and three-year contracts.
The contracts were approved overwhelmingly by both unions last week.
