The Coventry Board of Education is a ship adrift. Where is the leadership? Where is the concern? Why are they failing to act? Since the NEASC report called for curriculum reform, the leaders have talked about curriculum software but have failed to review or approve any changes in curriculum. They are asleep at the wheel. The voters approved a budget last year, and the leaders didn't follow it. Instead they announced the elimination of a school bus to pass a budget, then hired an extra bus and transported non-students and paid for it by reallocating funds from other areas. Why did they deny our students $7,800 allocated for textbooks and over $4,344 for workbooks? Why did they deny teachers over $41,649 of instructional supplies approved by the taxpayers? What about that extra bus this year? It was eliminated eight months after board member John Barrett asked for action when transportation committee Chairwoman Cheri Trudon finally called a meeting in August
